Here at River Ridge East Birth Centre, our Antenatal Classes are delivered by knowledgeable and experienced practicing Midwives who facilitate the classes in a relaxed and informal way. You can choose to attend a block of four, two-hour classes, held on a Wednesday night, or two half-day sessions held in the weekend (usually two consecutive Saturday mornings).
Our class fee is $100. This covers attendance for you and your partner, or birth support person, for the four weekday sessions, or two weekend sessions.
Class options:
Mid-week (Wednesday night) antenatal classes for four consecutive weeks (6.15pm – 8.30pm)
Weekend antenatal classes held over two consecutive Saturdays (9.00am – 1.30pm)
Antenatal classes help you and your partner to get ready for labour, birth, breastfeeding and caring for a newborn baby. Most people say going to classes helps them feel more confident as the birth approaches.
You will also meet a group of parents who, like you, are expecting a baby. Many parents say talking to other people in a similar situation and sharing experiences is one of the major benefits of antenatal classes.
Why do I need to attend Antenatal Classes
Antenatal classes will help prepare you and your support person for the arrival of your baby. You will learn what to expect during labour and delivery, plus the postnatal period, and you’ll receive early parenting information. Antenatal classes will help prepare you for specific situations that may occur during your late pregnancy, labour and birth. Your support person will also learn how to best help you and your baby throughout.
Antenatal classes also provide a safe and comfortable environment for you to ask any questions or express any concerns you may have, as well as providing an opportunity to meet and interact with other expectant parents. Being prepared for life once you take your new baby home is also really important. After completing our Antenatal Classes you’ll leave feeling prepared and confident for the arrival of your new baby.
When do I attend Antenatal Classes
You are encouraged to attend antenatal classes around 8-10 weeks before your baby is due, when you are roughly 29-32 weeks pregnant.
