Birthing Pool and Rooms
We offer four fully equipped birth rooms, each with an adjoining en-suite, equipped to ensure mother and baby safety, and designed to offer a relaxed and calming environment. Rooms feature dimmable lights to add to a peaceful ambience, and a wide choice of birth equipment, such as the birthing pools for water birth or pain relief, birthing slings, birth stools, bean bags, or Swiss balls.

All labour and birth care is provided by your chosen midwife (LMC), and in the event of an emergency, the River Ridge East staff midwife will assist and, if the need arises, arrange transfer to the nearby Waikato Women’s Hospital.
Pool Rooms
The pool rooms are adjacent to the birth rooms and open onto a secluded outdoor area. Support in water is one of the most beneficial things that can be offered to a woman in labour. The analgesic effect of water is widely acknowledged.
Bath Room
We also have a bath adjacent to the birth room, which may be used for labour and birth, as well as during postnatal stay. A warm, deep bath allows a woman to relax in labour and postnatally.
Water Birth
Support in water is one of the most beneficial things that can be offered to a woman in labour, providing a calming influence and a peaceful relaxed atmosphere.
Voices become softer, the mother remains calm and all involved become less stressed. The effect that buoyancy and deep water immersion creates allows spontaneous movement of the mother, without the need for assistance; she moves as her body and the position of the baby dictate, also helping open the pelvis, allowing the baby to descend.
A labouring woman who is able to relax physically, is able to relax mentally as well. Many women and midwives acknowledge the analgesic effect of water and thousands of water birth mothers state they would never consider labouring without water again.
